David Turner suggests that “Slogans should be memorable and catchy so they are remembered. But I’m also a fan of the Plain English Campaign, which campaigns against gobbledygook and jargon.”
To support his argument, David shares two examples from his previous experience.
“In my early career, I worked for Castrol oil company, and the slogan for Castrol GTX car engine oil was ‘Liquid Engineering’. It’s pretty good to have a slogan contained in two words. Later I did a lot of work with Intel Corp, which made processors for PCs. A component you couldn’t even see, and most users didn’t understand what it actually did. Yet they had a very popular and successful slogan, ‘Intel Inside.’ These two words became an endorsement of the quality of the PC you were buying.”
“And then there is the nailing a tone of voice,” adds Emma. Lisa Taylor, copywriter at Can I Have A Word, discusses this in her blog. “But perhaps most importantly, establishing your own tone of voice clearly and consistently means that you don’t just sound exactly like everyone else who’s out there in your field.
